Start with your feedstock
Record the material type, particle size and variation between batches. Fine sawdust, fibrous bagasse and larger wood chips behave differently during feeding, transport and drying. A representative sample helps an engineer assess handling requirements and select a suitable dryer configuration.
Define inlet and outlet moisture
Measure the incoming moisture across typical operating conditions and specify the moisture needed by the downstream process. State whether measurements are on a wet or dry basis so the requirements can be compared consistently. Seasonal variation should be included when discussing system capacity.
Specify throughput and available heat
Give the required wet-feed quantity per hour and the expected operating schedule. Explain which heat sources are available at the site and any limits on temperature, space or utilities. The amount of water to be evaporated matters as much as the total feed quantity.
Review the complete installation
Consider material storage, feeding, separation, dust collection, controls and access for maintenance alongside the dryer itself. Ask the engineering team to confirm the system design against your material and intended end use before finalising equipment selection.
